It's here to stay: Pay by plate

Pittsburgh's vision

As a public agency, we seek maximum value from the commitment of our assets. And that component of our mission led us to select Cale and gtechna to supply our plan to establish Pittsburgh as one of America’s most customer-friendly providers of metered parking services. The demonstrated effectiveness of the firm’s pay-by-plate technology, together with its capacity to offer the full range of features required to meet the expectations of a demanding and sophisticated customer base, enabled us to satisfy every important item on our pre-purchase punch list.

We were also impressed by the content and implementation program to familiarize parking patrons with the function and operation of equipment that replaced single-space, coin-only meters that had been in place for years. A team of Cale-gtechna trained parking “ambassadors,” all hired locally, provided hands-on assistance during the meters’ introductory period. The quality of their work markedly reduced customer confusion and complaints from anticipated levels.

Our satisfaction with the performance of the Cale-gtechna system – and its value to the Authority and its patrons alike  – is evidenced by our intention to adopt it city-wide by the close of 2013. The expansion will mark Pittsburgh as the nation’s first metropolitan center to adopt pay-by-license-plate technology to manage all of its metered parking locations. We look forward to a continued productive relationship with these firms' representatives for years to come.

David G. Onorato, Executive Director, Pittsburgh Parking Authority
